SPORTS BRACING - SPORTS-RELATED INJURIES

There are two principal types of braces used in sports medicine: rehabilitative and prophylactic. In rehabilitative bracing, the prime focus is to allow a protected range of motion after surgery for the injured joint.

  • Prophylactic braces are designed to stop or lessen the severity of injuries, so their focus is prevention.
  • Custom-made braces, which non-restrictive are principally rehabilitative, provide security for unstable joints and are fabricated from measurements and/or cast molds to fit the athlete for a specific purpose.

People of all ages can suffer from sports-related injuries. Sprains, strains, muscle pulls, and tendonitis are all too familiar injuries that MD West ONE sports medicine physicians treat on a daily basis.
