MD West ONE - Proud Diamond Sponsor of HETRA

MD West ONE is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy (HETRA), a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals of all ages and abilities through equine-assisted activities.

Founded in 1989, HETRA began as a modest program with one participant, one horse, and three volunteers. Today, HETRA serves over 150 participants weekly with 30 horses and 180 volunteers.

What is HETRA?

HETRA proudly provides equine-assisted services to individuals with a variety of challenges, including cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, brain injuries, developmental delays, PTSD, and more. Through therapeutic riding, carriage driving, and equine-assisted learning sessions, participants experience improvements in balance, confidence, strength, and emotional resilience. The inclusive and supportive environment fosters personal growth and community connection, helping each participant reach their fullest potential.

HETRA’s Impact:

The heart of HETRA lies within its dedicated community. Every year, volunteers contribute over 26,000 hours, working tirelessly to ensure that each session runs smoothly and every participant feels supported. HETRA is more than just a program—it is a family united by the mission of creating life-changing experiences for those who need them most. The positive transformations seen through the program are a testament to the unwavering commitment of both staff and volunteers.
