Jiffy Knee™
A Complete Muscle and Tendon Sparing Knee Replacement
Faster Recovery. Less Trauma. Real Results.
Are you looking for a knee replacement option that helps you recover faster and return to the activities you love? At MD West ONE, Dr. Todd Sekundiak and Dr. Justin Makovicka offer the Jiffy Knee™ procedure. This is an advanced approach to total knee replacement designed around your comfort and long-term success. Unlike traditional knee replacement techniques, Jiffy Knee™ is engineered to preserve the muscles and tendons around your knee. Rather than cutting through these important structures, Dr. Sekundiak and Dr. Makovicka use specialized instruments and techniques to gently lift the muscle and slide it aside. Only the skin and joint capsule are incised during the procedure, which means minimal soft-tissue trauma and a smoother healing experience.
Benefits of Jiffy Knee™ include:
- Muscle and tendon preservation
- Reduced recovery time compared to traditional techniques
- Less soft tissue trauma and swelling
- A faster return to daily activities and active lifestyle

FAQs
What is the biggest difference between the Jiffy Knee replacement and a traditional knee replacement?
The biggest difference is preserving the soft tissue of your muscles and your tendons by not cutting them during the surgical exposure.
What are the risks of a jiffy Knee replacement versus a traditional knee replacement?
The risks of knee replacement done traditionally versus Jiffy is the same.
Will my insurance cover the Jiffy Knee?
The Jiffy Knee procedure is billed the same as a total knee replacement; therefore, it should be covered under your regular insurance plan. MD West ONE accepts most insurance. See our full list here.
Does it cost any more from the insurance standpoint to do the Jiffy Knee versus a traditional knee?
Typically, the insurances are billed the same since it’s classified as a total knee replacement but it is always good to double check with your surgeon.
Is minimally invasive surgery the same as a Jiffy Knee replacement?
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) can be a misnomer. There is nothing minimally invasive about a knee replacement. Jiffy is more classified as minimally, traumatic surgery (MTS). Minimal trauma to the muscles and tendon.
Can you have robotic surgery with Jiffy Knee?
Yes, but not all surgeons will utilize a robot. Studies have shown there’s no better outcomes with robotic surgery versus non-robotic surgery.
How soon after my first knee replacement can I get the other one?
We typically wait at least 2 to 3 months between knees.
Will I have staples or external sutures after my knee replacement?
Some surgeons may still use staples or external sutures, but majority of the surgeons are now starting to do absorbable sutures underneath the skin.
How soon will I start physical therapy after my surgery?
We typically start our patients 48 hours after their knee replacement depending on availability of the therapist.
Why is the recovery so much faster with a Jiffy Knee replacement?
The concept is by not cutting your muscles and tendon during the surgical exposure, those muscles and tendons do not need to be repaired. After the surgery, the goal is that you experience significantly less pain with faster recovery by preserving your muscles and tendons.
